It's no secret - if you've followed our social media account for any length of time, or done a nutrition consultation here at HAPT, you know we are major fans of green smoothies/shakes for breakfast. But not just any green smoothie. Kelly LeVeque's Fab 4 Smoothie to be specific.
Kelly LeVeque is a celebrity nutritionist, and for years we've touted the effectiveness of her smoothie recipes, as well as her comprehensive nutrition principles. (Last month we suggested her book, Body Love, in our blog, "Books that Made us Better." Find that post here. Buy her book here).
Many trainers here at HAPT acclaim the Fab 4 smoothies and utilize them as part of our daily nutrition. And there are reasons we love them so much: They keep you satisfied, they assist in fat loss, and they're delicious. Browse Kelly's website for any length of time and you'll see why these smoothies are able to accomplish all that. There are 4 key ingredients each must have:
Protein - we like the following protein powders: Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (purchase at HAPT or order online), Primal Kitchen Collagen Fuel, Dr. Axe Ancient Nutrients Collagen. Or you can use any protein powder you like.
Greens - we like adding organic frozen spinach and cucumber to our smoothies/shakes.
Fat - (yep!) in our morning smoothies/shakes we put MCT oil or coconut oil along with almond butter.
Each of these 4 ("Fab 4") ingredients plays an essential role in keeping you full for 4-6 hours by stabilizing your blood sugar. Plus, it may not sound like it, but the smoothie is absolutely delicious! Surf Kelly LeVeque's website to find all sorts of smoothie recipes that incorporate these "Fab 4" into smoothies and other recipes. (Find our favorite smoothie recipe below).
